Format of Lingofest Spanish Programs and Results

Language training sessions are divided into 4 levels which cover varied topics in multiple aspects of language proficiency.

Option 1: 2 hours per session two or three times per week

Option 2: 2.5 hours per session two or three times per week

For the best results, we prefer to work in small groups of 6 to 10 students.

A second option to reduce cost will be groups of 12 to 15 students.

Survival. 40-50  hours

This level is designed to introduce everyday expressions and basic phrases.  Students will develop the skills to form simple sentences; to carry basic conversations including how to introduce themselves and others; to ask and answer questions about physical characteristics, time, numbers, and other survival subjects; and to express the type of activities they do on a regular basis. When students complete this level, they will have the ability to interact in a simple manner when others speak Spanish to them slowly and clearly.

Basic. 100-110 hours

Students who enroll in this level will learn the fundamentals of Spanish language grammar, the formation of sentences, and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (i.e. basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, and employment). Students will also learn to communicate simple and routine tasks requiring an exchange of information by both the speaker and receiver. They will be able to describe, in concise terms, the aspects of their background, immediate environment, and other topics of immediate need.

Intermediate. 200-210 hours

This level is designed to teach students how to express and interpret main points of conversation, reading, and writing on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, leisure, etc. Students will also learn to manage most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Furthermore, students will have the ability to describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions on various subject matters.

Advance. 300 + hours

To be considered at this level, students must have the ability to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization. At this level, students will able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that allows for regular interaction with native speakers without strain for either party. Exhibiting confidence in their language abilities, students should produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain their viewpoints on subject matters giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
